Dear Steve
We are still hopeful that your appeal will be heard before Christmas but even if it takes longer it's all for the best if your innocence can be proved. Easy for me to say I know when it's not me being locked up in a prison cell every day for hours on end.
Everyone comments on how your letters always cheer them up, it's great that you can keep positive in the face of what you have had to deal with but I'm sure that there are many things you don't tell us.
Looking forward to a New Year when things will be different for you.

I first met you at the London Welsh in 1994 and Nigel Walker saved the day for Wales. From staying in touch with our mutual friend Dave I met you again two years later. You're a lovely guy and I firmly believe that you love Jaz (all those people who judge should try to pick up a stone.they'll find they can't) I along with so many others will be rooting for your appeal. Mate, justice winning you will be free to watch Wales win next year's Grand Slam.

Dear Stephen
I love to read of all the support you are getting from friends, family and even people you don’t yet know. Despite all your heartbreak and heartache you are so lucky that so many people care so much about you and that is all tribute to you and your family. You grew up such a lovely boy and it breaks my heart to think what people have done to you through ignorance and narrow mindedness during these last 2 years. It has almost been like watching a TV drama where someone is fitted up by unsubstantiated unfounded evidence but now I know that this is real and it has actually happened to you. I am so excited about the appeal and yet so nervous as I am now well aware of how easily evidence can be misrepresented. I pray that your defence team will live up to our hopes in London and be able to undo the damage that has been done to you and your family. My thoughts are with you daily. Try to keep your spirits up.
Lots of love Kristine x

A message to Jaz:
They say time is a great healer but for those that were lucky enough to have been in your life will know this is not to be true. We all believe that Stephen is an innocent man. It's a pity that some people are too single minded to open their minds to the possibility of wrongful conviction.
Anyone who is willing to judge just from reading a newspaper should take a long look at their own lives before judging others. We all wish Stephen the best of luck and we are praying for him too.

Message for Steve from Sandra Lean 25 May 2008
Although I have worked on cases of wrongful conviction for a long time now, I never ceased to be amazed at the incredible strength and courage of wrongfully convicted people and their families and friends. In spite of the enormous injustice they have suffered, they are, to a man (and woman), compassionate and caring beyond belief. To find yourself in these circumstances must be utterly devastating, but, as Stephen says, these people still find the time, and the space in their hearts, to support and encourage others. Frequently, I am overwhelmed by the way these people cope with the dreadful blow they have been dealt ( often, in fact, it's a double blow, because the person they have been convicted of killing was someone they loved.)
To the law student who was concerned about the "little" she could do, I'd say, do whatever you can - if we all do a little, eventually it will amount to a very big amount. And to Stephen, and all the others like him, you have my total respect and admiration. Keep strong, keep fighting, there are many, many people out here fighting for you.

Here's hoping for freedom and justice so rightfully yours. 17May 2008
Dear Steve
Having read your website a phrase comes to mind:
'Courage does not always roar like a lion...sometimes it is the tired voice at the end of a day that says I will try again tomorrow.'
My thoughts are with you in the hope that you maintain your strength to fight for the justice and freedom that is rightfully yours.
As a first year law student, I am ashamed to read of so much injustice. However, there is little point in me complaining about it. I am hoping my time will be better spent getting myself to where I may be able to make a tiny difference.
Though I know my offer is meagre, if I can ever be of assistance please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards
Sarah

Hi Steve
Just been reading all the messages on the site and just wanted to add my ‘hello’ and best wishes. Love getting all the snippets about your progress and always keen to hear that you are keeping your chin up and trying to stay positive. Sorry I haven’t contacted much lately, have been quite rubbish at it but you are never far from my thoughts and I am always rooting for you. Hope you getting a chance to sample some of the lovely spring air we are getting and perhaps a chance to walk in the gardens in your section. Looking forward to the next meeting to find out exactly where we are with the campaign. Lots of love

The Innocent Man
John Grisham's book 'The Innocent Man' is a real eye opener re wrongful conviction. It isn't exactly cheerful reading but it's a true story and very powerful indeed.
Message for Stephen 28 Feb 2008
Dear Steve
Try and stay strong and keep believing that the truth will be heard in the end. Knowing you, when you are released, you will probably spend the rest of your life trying to help others who have been wrongly convicted.
All of your friends and family are glad to be able to support you but just wish it wasn't necessary.

I have read this web site and couldn't believe it, another innocent man put in jail for a crime he did not commit. How many more are there in our over crowded jails? Perhaps if the police looked for the truth instead of using conjecture and hearsay, which they seem to do in most cases fitting the conjecture to the facts and coming up with the eventual conviction of another innocent man. Just the same as Kevin Nunn. Please don't give up and fight for your freedom. I wish you luck and freedom. from Eunice

Dear Stephen,
I just wanted to write to you to say I know what a nightmare you and your family are going through as my brother is serving a life sentence for a murder he did not commit. Again no facts or evidence but found guilty due to assumption and heresay!
I met Sandra Lean, author of No Smoke at the Miscarriage of Justice day in London in October, she gave a very moving talk about the experience when in the police station and in court, that you hope someone will realise what a huge mistake they are making and that someone will come to your rescue. Only they don't and your nightmare never ends. I have read her book and have featured it on our website to 'spread' the word. She is an amazing and intelligent woman who I hope will continue to campaign for miscarriages of justice.
Be strong and remember (unfortunately) you're not alone and have many supporters. We must speak as one so that our voices are heard and I'm sure enough people will listen and open their eye's to the injustice of the British legal system.
With love and kind regards

It is fantastic to read and hear the reports of the successful leaflet drops for Stephen and Jaz in and around the Swansea area. To hear the encouragement people have been giving the campaign team is so lifting. Thank goodness there are people out there who are prepared to think again about the events leading up to this terrible crime and begin to come forward in support of Stephen as a person, a colleague and friend and challenge the false, negative picture that was presented to the public throughout the trial.
Posted under: Following the campaign 16 Nov 2007
I can not believe that anything like this could happen in the 21st century, I also thought you had to have solid evidence to be convicted not the word of a murderer. I am so sorry to hear what's happened to you mate. If there is anything I can do then I am only too happy to help out. Keep your chin up buddy, I know you are not capable of doing anything like this and everybody that knows you know it too. I hope a campaign like this helps get you out asap.
All the best.

The people who know that Stephen is innocent have covered miles and miles in Swansea over the last few weeks distributing leaflets asking if anyone saw Jaz with the dog Bwbach on the Saturday morning (please see the 'did you see this dog?' page for photographs). The people who have worked so tirelessly in all weathers are aged from 21 to 70 plus; one has a leg in plaster. They have visited, shops, garages, clubs, pubs, bakeries, offices, taxi ranks, to name just a few. They have stood outside workplaces at 5.00am in the morning. Without fail they have have been met with courtesy, sympathy and a willingness to listen from the people of Swansea. Wherever possible they have been given help with displaying and making the leaflets available
This group of people are not political activists in any way, they describe themselves as a very ordinary group of people who have found themselves in circumstances where they feel that they must speak and act to right a miscarriage of justice. I would like to disagree with their description of themselves, they are actually an extraordinary group of people.

Also some of the shops we went to I suspect knew you! as they referred to you as Steve in a tone of endearment. We didn't pry we just smiled.
Jaz told me a funny story once, she and Steve were coming back from America and Jaz's TV wouldn't work. She told the cabin crew and they said 'no problem, we'll turn all the TV's off and on and that will fix it'. They turned all the TV's off but then none of them would work! Jaz said that it was really embarrassing! It's good to remember Jaz for the lovely, funny person she was although it's hard to think about her without thinking about how tragically her life ended.
We'll never give up until we have real justice for you Jaz,
Love from

Morning Steve
As usual its early and I’m writing to you just to let you know I truly believe what you say and that you are innocent. Unfortunately the boys!!! of our family are spoilt with a lazy laid back attitude, trusting everyone and us girls (ha-ha) have to protect you, we will fight however long it takes to prove you had no involvement and a longer life sentence is given to the other party in this case . look after yourself

We all know this case was tried on Stephen’s lifestyle. The poor man made a mistake by having an affair, but he doesn't deserve to spend the rest of his life in jail for that. He should not have been tried on Rebecca Harris, hearsay of those 'vital texts' that were found as evidence. He is innocent and the truth will be proved!
Jaz and Steve 's friend, swansea
It is a ridiculous idea that a husband should persuade his mistress to murder his wife! She confessed to the crime after first denying it. She then tried to incriminate Stephen Marsh to obtain a lesser sentence. This is exactly what happened.
Concerned citizen, Swansea
After sitting through this case my faith in the British legal system and its so called upholders has been completely shattered
Shocked and Concerned Observer, Swansea
I totally understand how Jaspal’s family feel about this case, as if Stephen had not had an affair with this evil woman, this would not have happened. However, it would be fundamentally & morally wrong to convict & jail him, if he did not do it. The more I read about this case, the more I feel he is innocent. From what I can see the comments already given are strongly geared towards, not only proving Stephen innocent, but getting the person who actually committed this crime, the full life sentence she deserves, which is what the prosecution & jaspal family originally wanted? Statically the number of men who have affairs is high, unfortunately it he got involved with the wrong one, with horrendous outcomes. I really feel this a case of fatal attraction & am sure Stephen will carry massive guilt & loss for the rest of his life, without being wrongly convicted & jailed. I have read Sandra Leans book & it is truly surprising & you can see why she is supporting this case. I am sure deep down, Jaspal family have asked themselves, was it him?, but will forever have any objective judgement clouded by the dreadful loss of Jaspal. It seems the fact that the judge said that they appeared to have a loving marriage, regardless of outside factors.
objective reader, London
Why is the South Wales Evening Post describing Stephen Marsh as 'sadistic murderer' and Rebecca Harris as 'Mistress' and 'mother of one'. Surely she is the self confessed sadistic murderer? I genuinely don't understand the way this is being reported and why the labels are being attached to Stephen Marsh and not to Rebecca Harris. There is a technical legal point which allows the testimony of a co-defendant to be described as evidence. I think that it's about time the Evening Post told us which parts of the 'evidence' against Stephen Marsh are only the word of Rebecca Harris. The blanket use of 'evidence shows' may be technically correct but does not tell the whole story (ie the truth) in a way that anyone who does not have legal expertise could be expected to understand.
Intelligent Reader, Swansea
Rebecca Harris was obsessed with Stephen and wanted to be with him all the time. She wanted him to leave his wife, but he refused.
Peter Freeman, Swansea
after following Stephen Marsh's trial closely and being stunned by the verdict of guilty I am delighted to read that work is underway to clear his name and prove his innocence. The media needs to present more balanced reporting on this case instead of the one-sided negative character assassination we saw last year. Much has already been done to right this wrong and I am sure that the campaign to prove his innocence in this murder will continue to grow. It simply is not right to convict someone of murder on the basis of lifestyle and the word of a self confessed killer.
Academic, Cardiff
I'm friends of Jaz and Stephen, and I know that Stephen Marsh is innocent. Anybody who really knows Steve would know this. And anybody who knew Harries would know her as a jealous and controlling woman. People out there don't realise how many miscarriages of justices out there, read the book the shocking truth about British Justice by Sandra Lean you'll be shocked, and this needs to stop. We now need to get the real justice for my dear friend Jaz (Jaspal), and for Harries to get the right sentence that a murderer truly deserves, and for us to prove Stephen's innocence, which we will.
friends of Jaz (Jaspal) and Steve., Swansea.
On the 29th of July 2006 our lives were destroyed when we discovered that my Aunt Jaz had been murdered. On that day we not only lost a truly incredible person in her, who we miss and love so much but also lost our Stephen. Stephen was convicted on his life style and not on hard evidence, in fact, there was no evidence to prove that he was guilty. Stephen had nothing to gain by being involved in this horrific crime, the only person who did was Rebecca Harris.
Gary
Stephen Marsh's character was unfairly assassinated by the media. What real evidence is there against him?
CONCERNED OBSERVER, SWANSEA
The papers have not told a true picture of the case it was all one sided (Harris's side )Stephen is definitely innocent he is a very kind man and only think good in everybody,
Stephen's Friend, Swansea
After initially letting this trial bypass me, mainly because of the prosecution focused reporting, i have re-visited it & been astounded by the weakness of this case, and massive lack of motive. This to me seems another case of naive police, being simply unable to comprehend, that a WOMAN can be as evil as Rebecca Harris, on her own. There is a large concern in the media at the moment regarding the kid gloves treatment & sentencing given to female criminals.
shocked reader, London
To 'jaspal friend' - I your comment 'throw away the key' is not something Jaz would want, knowing her husband would never have a motive or desire to do something like that, to his wife who he loved, regardless of his lifestyle.
a longstanding very close friend of Jaz & Steve, swansea
To BJ you are right the jury reached their verdict on the facts presented but only on facts presented. I think the purpose of an appeal is to present facts that perhaps were not presented. It is true miscarriages of Justice do occur. Why not this case?
Brynleigh, Swansea
to BJ are we to take it then that cases such as Sally Clarke and Sion Jenkins had a fair unbiased hearing. It happens, people are not always in possession of all the facts otherwise we would not see these serious miscarriages of justice occur.
A concerned reader, swansea
we believe the justice system will free an innocent man - jailing a lying woman for longer - we lost a lovely lady
faithful friend, swansea
What evidence is there for Stephen Marsh's guilt? Only the word of Rebecca Harris.
Swansea reader, Swansea
